Side Table From Shanxi - 19th Century Tables It came from Gansu ProvinceThese Chinese elm side tables usually come in pairs and originally were used as stools in the Qing dynasty (1644 1911). These particular side tables date from the 19th century and originally came from Shanxi Province. Originally they would have been coated in a dark lacquer, however, over time, this has mostly worn away on the tabletop to reveal a beautiful elm grain.
