Iron Bound Teak Dowry Chest From Kutch - 18th Century Benches Framed in a simple giltThis beautifully patinated iron bound chest is from Kutch and dates to the 18th century. It is constructed from teak wood. Most likely it was custom made for a wealthy family to stash away dowry, family treasures, or cash from the prying eyes of extended family members. The interior consists of a large storage space. A sturdy iron chain prevents the lid from falling fully open. This chest has been reduced in height to make a practical coffee table.
